Rowner Regeneration

Rowner Regeneration Scheme

Summary

YES Energy Solutions worked with Gosport Borough Council and OVO Energy to fund an extensive external wall insulation (EWI) scheme.

This scheme is now closed, get in touch with how else we may be able to help.

Scheme In Detail

14 solid wall blocks of flats and maisonettes in the Rowner area of the town were given full energy efficiency upgrades, helping hundreds of residents to keep warm and reduce their fuel bills.

With the properties located off the mains gas network, many of the residents were at risk of living in fuel poverty, relying on inefficient and expensive electric storage heaters to heat their homes.

Under this scheme thermal insulation boards were fitted to the exterior of each building then rendered to enhance their visual appearance. Not only did the project improve the existing streetscape, but it helped retain heat enabling residents to take control of their energy bills.

A total of 235 apartments benefited from the renovation.

The properties are managed by Zephyr Property Agents and Hampshire Property Management Ltd. and both shared the Council’s drive to improve living standards and help residents save energy.

The project used an innovative blended funding approach whereby 50% of the measures are paid for via the Government's Green Deal Communities Fund - a unique funding pot available to Local Authorities which Gosport Borough Council were successful in procuring. Around 30% was paid by the Management Companies and the remaining balance was covered via YES Energy Solutions’ funding arrangements with OVO Energy under the Energy Company Obligations (ECO) scheme.

Our Role

YES Energy Solutions secured ECO funding to support the project through Bristol based utility company, OVO Energy. This relationship gave the works a major contribution which broadened the scope of the project.

We were responsible for ensuring that the maximum amount of funding was made available. We did this by calculating the amount of CO2 that will be saved as a result of the external wall insulation being applied to each building. Our experienced Funding and Compliance team processed the funding application and ensured all documentation meets the relevant requirements before installations were scheduled.

The Impact

Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage was delighted with the scheme’s progress, she explained:

"This is a win-win situation. Ecologically it’s great but it makes a much more pleasant living environment and actually saves residents money in their pocket."

The contractors (Wall Coatings) are now on site and the first installations have been completed. The project has already had a positive impact on householders. One resident explained:

"There has been a massive improvement. It’s definitely a lot warmer and I’ve seen a lot more of my neighbours – some I didn’t even know lived here – so it’s brought the community together as well."
