We caught up with Will & Katelyn, the two newest apprentices at YES.
They're both beginning their multi channel Marketing apprenticeship at YES through Baltic Apprenticeships.
K – erm, because I didn’t want to go to Uni! I didn’t want to spend all the money on student debt, and maybe even not get a job when I finish - I thought this would be the best way to help set me up for a job in the future. I also wanted some practical experience learning, not just theoretical during lectures.
W – Mine's a similar answer - I didn’t want student debt. And it’s incredibly hard when everyone has the same qualifications as you – I feel that Marketing is highly competitive and I was worried I wouldn't get a job - so I thought I’d go for apprenticeship.
W – I found the application and interview process really smooth actually – I've definitely had worse job interviews! It was good as I had an initial introductory chat which was quite informal, then a formal interview afterwards. Some interviews I've had have been very long winded, and were quite negative and I didn't get a lot of info from them.
K – I thought the whole process was yeah really good – you felt very guided on it. Like when I was waiting I was in contact with Baltic and they kept me informed and in the loop. Once I got the interview invite, they were supportive with additional support and interview techniques to help!
K - I’d say just do it – I've heard stories of people getting a degree then not getting a job in that relevant sector due to lack of experience, – but with an apprenticeship you get the qualification AND experience. Plus you're surrounded by a wider team of skilled colleagues beyond just your team, there's a bigger picture.
