As a company with a strong social purpose, we feel that it is only right to share our experiences – both good and bad - and use our influence to put across our views on how policy can shape or break the green economy and how it really affects those in fuel poverty.
We have started to become much more engaged with policy makers about the changes in our industry and how they affect our communities.
Our policy expert, Jos Mister has recently submitted responses to the Government consultation on the Fuel Poverty Strategy for England, as well as Ofgem’s (the energy regulator) consultation on the Fuel Poor Network Extension Scheme. Within these documents we offer our insight into how these Government strategies will affect the industry and which elements we feel should be modified to help achieve their objectives around fuel poverty and energy efficiency.
In June, YES Energy Solutions joined the All Party Parliamentary Fuel Poverty & Energy Efficiency Group, a cross party assembly of over 70 MPs and 30 industry members that works to raise awareness of the solutions to eradicate fuel poverty in the UK. The Group seeks to stimulate debate about the need for long-term investment in energy efficiency improvements. It also investigates the potential contributions that can be made by Government, Local Authorities, Landlords and Energy Companies towards enabling those on low incomes to keep warm at a price they can afford.
This Group gives YES Energy Solutions access to Members of Parliament, allowing us the opportunity to both share our experiences in the sector, but also learn about how these issues are being addressed by Government officials.
In September YES Energy Solutions attended the annual NEA conference in Scarborough where we heard from those working at the cutting edge of fuel poverty alleviation. YES Energy Solutions contributed to the debate, with our Chief Executive Andrew Herbert giving a presentation on funding opportunities then later joining a panel of experts to discuss how to implement the Government’s fuel poverty strategy. The conference was a great opportunity to get up to speed on key issues and helped us make some influential business connections.
We are also supporting Public Sector Energy, a website that offers advice and support on energy efficiency to a growing network of local authorities and ancillaries. Public Sector Energy is managed by Steven Cirell, one of our non-executive board members who specialises in advising local government on the benefits of renewable energy technology. Stephen has created an effective resource to help keep the public sector up to date with the latest actions, events and policies on Climate Change.
YES Energy Solutions is always keen to work with organisations that share our drive and enthusiasm for energy efficiency. Why not join us on LinkedIn and share your views on the latest industry developments.
