'Our house feels warmer and looks warmer!'

William and Iris Mann from Leeds discuss the benefits of having external solid wall insulation installed by YES Energy Solutions.

"The insulation at our home has made a big difference," explained William. "We were lucky to get a good crew who worked extremely hard through a very hot summer. Even though it cost me a fortune in coffee and tea, they did a great job and we were very happy with their level of service."

Iris explained how the insulation has improved the overall feel of the property.

"As soon as they finished we noticed the change in temperature. When it was hot outside, we would come in from shopping and the house would be nice and cool. And now that it’s getting colder, we have noticed that the house retains its heat.

"We had the heating on for an hour this morning and it’s stayed at a nice ambient temperature all day. Before, we would have had it on all day. I’ve even turned our thermostat down which is fantastic!"

Leeds born and bred, the Mann’s moved to the Swarcliffe area 15 years ago to downsize and enjoy their retirement. Having seen the cost of energy rocket, the couple were trying everything they could to drive down their fuel bills.

"We noticed that all the council houses in the area had already been insulated," said William. "Because our house is of a similar build we knew that the insulation would be compatible. We signed up to a local scheme and found out that we could get funding towards the work.

"Without a grant we wouldn’t have got the work done as external insulation is very expensive. We were also given the option to take out an interest free loan through Leeds Credit Union to cover the remaining balance.

"It made sense to take advantage of the offer and pay it off over five years. I know we will cover our costs with what we will save on fuel. After three or four years we will notice the real benefit!"

Since having the work carried out, the couple hope that external solid wall insulation will help them control their spiralling fuel bills.

"On the radio this morning they’ve just announced that another utility company is hiking up their prices. It really is getting ridiculous. We have always kept an eye on our bills and we are very conscious of what we spend on fuel. With the external insulation I know that we will be able to keep things in control and not have to chase our tails."

William and Iris decided to go with a cream render finish to enhance their home’s visual appearance.

"Not only does the house feel warmer but it looks warmer on the outside. We are really happy with the end result. I sent a card in to the office thanking the lads for all their hard work. It’s great to meet a hard working team that treat your house with respect."
