Wakefield Low Carbon Communities was launched in 2009 as a four year area based initiative reflecting the aims of the Wakefield Affordable Warmth Strategy 2007 - 2010.
Scheme In Detail
YES Energy Solutions delivered the scheme on behalf of Wakefield Council.
The project was a comprehensive one-step approach to tackling Fuel Poverty in private sector housing, as well as improving poor home energy efficiency. Working on an area by area basis, homeowners and private renting tenants were offered free cavity wall and loft insulation, regardless of their household income or property size.
YES Energy Solutions managed all insulation measures in conjunction with Viscount Insulation, whilst working with EDF Energy to fund the scheme.
The scheme also promoted other useful services from the Council’s partners. These included:
Free benefit entitlement checks
Free mortgage debt advice
Free home fire safety checks
Central heating information and advice
Advice and support from Carers Wakefield & District
Free and impartial home energy and Microgeneration advice
Wakefield Low Carbon Communities concluded in December 2012.
Mark Hooton, Home Energy Manager at Wakefield Council explained:
"Wakefield Council have a long history of working in partnership with YES on the delivery of effective home energy efficiency schemes. These schemes include the delivery of targeted hard-to-treat and heating initiatives, as well as area based insulation schemes. Of notable mention is the very successful Low Carbon Communities Scheme, launched in April 2009 which has targeted over 30,000 households in 5 wards with free home insulation and other wellbeing services."
