NEA – Connecting homes for health

NEA Connecting homes for health in partnership with YES Energy Solutions

Summary

National Energy Action (NEA) appointed YES Energy Solutions to manage their gas connection project which aimed to improve health and wellbeing of residents in County Durham and Sunderland through heating improvements.

Scheme in Detail

The project aimed to improve health and wellbeing by upgrading heating facilities for residents to live in more comfortable homes.

National Energy Action (NEA) added YES Energy Solutions to their framework to manage their gas connection project which installed first-time gas central heating systems in 103 Durham and Sunderland properties in only several months.

The Warm Homes Discount scheme provided funding for residents, and gas connections were supported by the Fuel Poor Network Extension Scheme (FPNES) which aims to connect householders in fuel poverty to the gas network in order for them to access a cheaper fuel source.

Launched in December 2018, 10 areas of County Durham and Sunderland were targeted, with NEA conducting research to identify householders who suffer from cold related illnesses and would benefit the most from funding.

A cold home can dramatically aggravate many illnesses, which include cardiovascular conditions, respiratory conditions, mental health conditions, and mobility issues.

The project aimed to help residents living with these conditions as well as other illnesses affected by cold, to improve comfort and quality of life.

The results of the project are being closely analysed to explore the health benefits of living in a warmer home.

NEA is a national charity working to end fuel poverty and undertake multiple activities to help residents live in warmer, more comfortable homes they can afford to heat.

Our involvement

YES Energy Solutions project managed the scheme to connect 103 residents to a cheaper and more affordable fuel source.

Work had to be carried out diligently and in close partnership with the NEA, as the funding was only ring-fenced for a short period of time.

We took residents through their first-time gas central heating installs from first appointment to completion, using our network of accredited contractors to complete the work.

Customers were validated for the FPNES vouchers by YES to ensure that the connection to the gas mains was free or discounted.
