Ruling for government contractors to have net zero plans in place Jun 08, 2021

The Government has announced that they will take into account the carbon reduction plans of major public contractors when awarding bidders.

From September, businesses without plans to reduce their carbon footprint will not be able to bid on contracts worth more than £5 million.

Suppliers looking to work with government must commit to reducing their emissions and achieving net zero by 2050.

They must also declare greenhouse gas emissions and provide a carbon reduction plan with all the necessary details that relate to the environmental management measures that will be deployed to achieve the goals

The announcement coincides with World Environment Day and is widely believed to be the first move of this type taken by any government.
