Office Bake Off Feb 23, 2018

Bake Off

We've pulled out all the stops to compete for this year's Bake Off crown for charity. The event was organised to raise money in support of Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, an annual event run by NEA.

The ‘Nation’s Biggest Housewarming’ challenge saw a selection of cakes, from Chocolate Cheesecake to Goat’s cheese and Chorizo muffins in aid of the cause, and what better way to raise money than with cakes and treats! The Bake Off raised over £100 for National Energy Action, a national charity who promote the need to provide support for vulnerable households across the UK who struggle to heat their homes.

Funding & Compliance Administrator, Zoe Doyle who organised the 2018 YES Energy Solutions’ bake off, told us:

“What better way to spend a Friday than with cake! Everyone has made a great effort this year to contribute, as we all recognise the great work that NEA do.

“The competition was tough, but even for those who didn’t win our office bake off competition, we’ve still helped to make a difference and support NEA’s vital work in helping vulnerable people afford to heat their homes.”

The money raised will help NEA to continue to raise the awareness of the four million households in the UK living in fuel poverty, as well as supporting their projects to help end fuel poverty.

According to the latest statistics provided by the Government, 12.4% of all homes across Yorkshire and The Humber are considered to be living in fuel poverty. This means that many low income families and elderly residents are left with the impossible decision of whether to heat their homes, or eat.

As a CIC (Community Interest Company), our goal is to reduce fuel poverty and the impacts of climate change. Our shared goal with NEA is why we support Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, but we also saved householders over £50m last year* through our proactive works to reduce cold and damp homes across the country.

We are currently working in partnership with many Local Authorities and Energy Companies to deliver schemes which promote options for more affordable warmth and comfort. The company is in the process of managing a range of area based initiatives offering insulation and heating grants to qualifying residents.
