Retailer John Lewis and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) have been working together to launch a trial energy saving home labeling system.
The labelling system will show you how much it costs to run different brands of washing machines, washer dryers or tumble dryers.
You will be given all the energy efficiency information so that you can decide which products will benefit you the most by ways of saving money and energy.
Quite often when our washing machine, tumble dryer or washer dryer breaks down, we go to the shop and buy a new one based on its capacity, colour and price. It is very unusual that it will be purchased on the basis that it will save you money!
Well, John Lewis aims to rectify this with their new energy saving home labelling system.
As with our electricity bills, we have no knowledge as to how much it costs to run our appliances. For the first time consumers will be well-informed about the likely running costs each appliance could create.
Not many consumers are aware that by purchasing a more energy efficient washer dryer when replacing an old one, they could make savings of over £500 on it's lifetime energy costs.
John Lewis is pioneering the labelling system and if it proves to be a success, it is likely that other retailers will adopt the model and roll it out as standard on all new appliance.
