Beat the Feed in Tariff Cut Oct 20, 2015

Don’t miss your chance to earn real money from Solar PV before the tariff is cut in January 2016.

The Government have announced their plans to scale back the Feed in Tariff in the New Year which will dramatically reduce the amount of money you could earn from a solar PV system.

The Feed in Tariff offers residents with solar PV arrays, regular payments for all the home grown electricity they produce.

If you get a system installed before the 31st December, you will get paid 12.47p for every kW of electricity you generate. This income is guaranteed for 20 years.

However, the Government has recently released a consultation proposing that the tariff will be cut by 87% in January 2015. This means that if you get a system installed in January 2016, you will only be able to claim 1.63p per kW generated.

So if you’ve been considering getting solar PV panels installed on your home – this is the time to do it to guarantee a good return on your investment.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, a 4kW solar PV array on a south facing roof in the North of England can generate around £420 a year under the current tariff rates.

Under the Government's new proposal, the same system may only provide around £55 per year in generation payments.

Please note that under the Feed in Tariff you will also get paid for the electricity you export to the grid. This export payment is currently 4.85p per kW and is deemed at 50% of all the electricity you produce. The government are not proposing on changing the export payment in this consultation.
