Baking to Solve Fuel Poverty Feb 17, 2017

Staff at YES Energy Solutions have taken to the kitchen in a collective ‘bake off’ to help raise awareness of fuel poverty.

YES Team bake to raise awareness of Fuel Poverty as part of the Nation's Biggest Housewarming campaign.

We’re taking part in the “Nation’s Biggest Housewarming” challenge, by baking and selling a selection of delicious cakes, buns and pastries on Fuel Poverty Awareness Day (Friday 17th February).

So far YES Energy Solutions has raised over £150 for the national charity NEA, a proactive organisation committed to supporting vulnerable residents that struggle to heat their homes.

Funding Executive, Rosie Young, who organised YES Energy Solutions’ bake off, is delighted with the team’s efforts. She said:

"Everyone loves cake! So what better way to raise money for charity than to share a nice cup of tea and a Victoria sponge with our colleagues. The money raised by the organisations involved in NEA’s housewarming challenge will be vital in helping vulnerable people take back control of their energy bills."

According to the latest Government statistics, there are almost two million households living in fuel poverty across England.

Fuel poverty occurs when a household’s income falls below the official poverty line after spending the actual amount needed to heat the property. Many low income families and elderly residents fall into this category and are left with the impossible decision of whether to heat or eat.

As a company dedicated to improving domestic energy efficiency, YES Energy Solutions is keen to counteract the national fuel poverty trend.

We are currently working in partnership with a range of Local Authorities and Energy Companies to develop schemes that promote affordable warmth and offer insulation and heating grants to qualifying residents.
