​£400 energy bill discount this winter Jul 29, 2022

From October 1st Households will start receiving a £400 discount on their energy bills.

The discount will be made in 6 instalments and has been put in place to help families throughout the Winter period.

The scheme which has been named the ‘Energy Bills Support Scheme’ will provide bill discounts to 29 million households across the UK.

The discount will be non-repayable and administered through energy suppliers.

Prepayment meter customers will be provided with discount vouchers whilst everyone else will receive the deduction automatically from their bill.

In all cases, no household should be asked for bank details at any point.

Business and Energy Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said:

“People across the country are understandably worried about the global rise in energy costs, and the pressure this is placing on everyday bills.

“While no government can control global gas prices, we have a responsibility to step in where we can and this significant £400 discount on energy bills we’re providing will go some way to help millions of families over the colder months.”
