£400 energy grant: Need to know Sep 26, 2022

According to the UK Government, all UK households are set to receive a £400 discount on their energy bills.

Starting in October, households will receive 6 instalments of £66 or £67, from October to March.

This grant is fully funded and non-repayable, and you will receive it regardless of income.

The way this is paid can slightly vary, and you can view the full guide on how this will be paid here.

Generally speaking, those on direct debit will receive this automatically - no action required.

Those on smart prepayment meters will also receive this automatically on their account every month.

If you are on an older prepayment meter, you will receive a voucher via text, email or post, which can be redeemed every month at your usual top-up place.

Important to note:

There are reports of fraudulent text/emails being sent in relation to this discount.

You will NEVER be asked for your bank details for this grant, so do not reply to anything that asks for them.
