Our Sales Development Manager, Ian Calvert has won a Heat Hero award for his work in helping Park Home residents slash their energy bills.
The national fuel poverty charity – NEA (in partnership with Scottish Power), selected Ian as one of 16 winners from a pool of over 60 entries.
Since 2015 Ian has managed the North Lincolnshire Park Home Insulation Scheme – an innovative programme supported via the Technical Innovation Fund. The scheme helps vulnerable householders transform the look and feel of their properties.
Park Homes (also referred to as static caravans) are some of the least energy efficient housing stock in the UK. Their thin walls provide very little resistance to escaping heat which puts many of the residents in risk of living in fuel poverty.
To help keep energy bills down, YES Energy Solutions is providing full insulation upgrades to over 30 Park Homes in Scunthorpe.
Ian was nominated as a Heat Hero for his commitment to the local residents. He has gone over and above the call of duty to help householders engage with the scheme and get the support they require.
He has spent time explaining the different insulation stages, scheduling extra visits around residents with specific needs and even gave bespoke energy saving advice.
What’s more, Ian actually carried out some of the installation work himself after a sub-contractor let him down. As a qualified installer, Ian undertook additional training to fit insulation boards under the floors of each Park Home to help trap in even more heat.
So far the project has been a great success and helped a local community pull together and take back control of their energy bills.
Jenny Saunders, Chief Executive at NEA commented:
“Ian clearly went over and above his usual duties to help the residents improve their standard of living. That’s why we picked him as one of our national Heat Heroes. People like Ian are at the forefront of the fight against fuel poverty, helping vulnerable people afford to heat their homes.”
The Heat Hero awards are an annual event that celebrates individuals that have made a significant commitment to reducing fuel poverty.
Ian will accompany the other finalists at the Houses of Commons in London on 7th September to receive his trophy.
Say YES to lower energy bills!
