Mr Reid - Gas Central Heating

Hampshire pensioner, Mr Reid explains the benefits of switching to mains gas central heating.

Mr Reid, a retired carpenter from Totton (Hampshire), was desperate for a new heating system having just experienced an extremely cold winter.

Over the years Mr Reid had relied on a couple of electric storage heaters, but they never seemed to be that effective. It was often so cold upstairs that he would spend all of his time in his living room trying to keep warm.

Mr Reid explained:

"My electric supply only gave me hot water at certain times of the day. There was no choice of being able to run a bath. Fortunately I was recommended to YES Energy Solutions, who we were told could access funding for a free or discounted gas connection service."

Mr Reid’s wife was never very keen on having gas in the home. She was always afraid that there could be hidden dangers. But having compared the price of gas with other domestic fuels, Mr Reid knew that a mains Gas installation would not only reduce his fuel bills but improve his home’s energy efficiency.

"My daughter spoke to YES Energy Solutions and they reassured us that gas was the best option. They also said that because of my circumstances I would be eligible for a free gas central heating system. I couldn’t believe it. I was over the moon."

Mr Reid’s gas connection was funded by Southern Gas Networks who are working in partnership with YES Energy Solutions to help eligible residents save energy and reduce fuel bills. YES Energy Solutions coordinated the whole project and also installed a brand new central heating system in Mr Reid’s home.  

Mr Reid’s daughter, Jane Drake explained:

"The new gas central heating system has made such a difference, hard to put it into words how we feel, so overwhelming. My father is 87 years old and really feels the cold, so this was greatly needed. At first I was very concerned that it would be a lot for my father to deal with - having workmen in his house...but the installers were no trouble at all, first class, good clean workers."

Mr Reid is now enjoying a warmer and more comfortable home and feels confident that he will be well prepared to face the forthcoming winter months.
