Self-employed fencer Peter
Benson from Thirsk was struggling to stay warm in his old house, however, a new
fully funded A-rated gas central heating system from the North Yorkshire Warm
Homes Scheme ended his woes.
The 62-year-old had been
in the family home all his life, and now lives on his own in the old five
Peter was relying on an open fire in the living room for
warmth, until he came across the North Yorkshire Warm Homes Fund scheme online
and decided to apply.
“I was so happy when I
found out it was fully funded because I’d never had central heating in my life,
I was made up.”
Peter received a gas connection and an extensive A-rated
central heating system for his large inefficient house.
“I could never have
done it on my own without the scheme because the system I needed was so big, I
couldn’t afford it.
“I’m only self-employed
and get work when I can, I’m not a big earner, I’m a low earner.
“But thanks to YES
Energy Solutions and the council I could get the system, I think it’s a brilliant
scheme, I really do.
“The installers did
such a good job, it’s as neat as it can be and the girls I spoke to on the
phone were very helpful.”
Peter works outdoors and spoke about the difficulties he
used to face when coming home from a hard day’s work.
“I used to sit in
front of my fire to get warm after work but the house would still be freezing. It’s
an old house and there’ no cavities, just solid 9 inch walls, and at the back they’re
all outside walls, so it gets very cold.
“Now I can come home,
switch the heating on and make my tea. I keep the heating controls with me as well, I
