Derek Greenbank - Gas Central Heating

Derek Greenbank from Pickering received a fully funded gas connection and central heating install from the North Yorkshire Warm Homes Fund.

Living with his wife, the couple were previously relying on nothing but a small fire in their living room for their heating.

Derek explained: "We had nothing, we only had a fire in the living room and we don’t get much sunlight in here either. We used the heat in the kitchen from cooking and the tumble dryer being on."

However, since receiving an energy efficient heating system, the house is now warmer and more cosy.

"The boiler’s been brilliant this winter, it’s made a huge difference and the install was great, I can’t knock the lads that came at all. They stopped until seven at night to finish the job off and everyone who I spoke to were spot on.

"The wife’s over the moon with it! The best thing is that when she’s been at work all day she’s now coming home to a warm house, whereas with the fire if I wasn’t in to put it on the house was freezing.

"And it’s nice to have quick hot water as well, that makes a real difference!"

The North Yorkshire Warm Homes is providing eligible residents in Ryedale, Hambleton, Richmondshire and the Scarborough Borough with fully funded gas connections and A-rated central heating.

Derek told us "I couldn’t believe we could have it done for free and neither did my wife, she thought I was joking when I first told her, but when we filled it in and it came back we were over the moon."
