Diane and Tony, Northallerton – North Yorkshire HUG2 – Jan 2025
Diane and Tony from North Yorkshire had an Air Source heat Pump and Solar panels installed in their home in Northallerton.
“It’s just me and my husband in this house. We have 3 daughters who do all regularly visit us and help.
“We’ve only recently moved int the house – about a year ago I think now – and everything was quite dated. We had oil before to heat the house, and the heating system was fine, you know it still worked, but it was very old. We did think we would have needed to replace it at some point soon.
“So we got a letter through the door. I didn’t open it at first, I thought it might be spam, but I put it in my bureau to come back to. And then our neighbour was actually having work done by you, and when we were speaking, I rechecked the letter.
“It sounded too good to be true. So, I did some research first. I checked that it was through the North Yorkshire County Council, and it was, and then with our neighbour also getting it done. So after all my investigating I knew it was real, and that’s when we wrote in.”
The installation was all completed over just 3 days in November 2023.
“It all happened sooner than we thought. We were having an extension on the house, which delayed YES and West Yorkshire Gas from the installation – but the whole team were all very accommodating. Especially Justin from YES – he was so accommodating when we needed to change dates. All of the YES team have been helpful and professional.
“The installers West Yorkshire Gas were all very efficient and helpful too. We did the work on the Wednesday to move the furniture around, and by Friday they were done! It was all very messy during it – but for those 3 days – once it’s all done you look back it was nothing really.
“It’s a bit too soon to say how much this will help financially – it’s only been 3 months – so we’ll know a lot more in a year. But we’re all very happy and settled. The house and water are warm enough for us.
We asked Diane and Tony if they had any advice for anyone who may be in a similar position to themselves with an old and inefficient heating system.
“Go for it basically. Make sure you do your research as I did and yes, go for it. I think a lot of people won’t want the upset of it all. I mean we are lucky to have a very helpful family who helped us sort the house out before and after. But it was very efficient and we’re very happy with the outcomes.”Diane and Tony, Northallerton - Solar panels and Air source heat pump
