Energy

As the cost of energy continues to rise, it is is becoming more challenging to keep ourselves and our families warm and healthy.

To make sure you're getting the most out of your energy, read these top tips to see if you could adopt some low cost energy saving habits that will save you money and energy in the long run.

  • Reduce your room thermostat by one degree. This will make more of a saving than you think and your home shouldn't be noticeably colder

  • Drop your washing machine temperature to between 30 - 40°c rather than putting it on a hotter cycle. Your clothes will still be clean and you will save up to £40 per year

  • Use your tumble dryer less frequently for a saving of up to £70 per year- air drying when possible

  • Compare gas and electricity prices to make sure that you are paying the cheapest tariff. Use websites like USwitch and Compare the Market for the most competitive tariffs in your area

  • Switch to direct debit to pay your energy bills. You could get up to 10% off! Most Energy Providers favour monthly instalments as they know they are guaranteed regular payments

  • Closing your blinds and curtains at night can stop heat from escaping, keeping your home warmer for longer

  • Unplug/switch off appliances when not in use to save up to £70 per year

  • Sign up for a smart meter to keep track of your energy usage in real time
