Is my loft conversion eligible for room in roof insulation?

If you have converted your loft into a living space, it is likely to be eligible for room in roof insulation, however there are some restrictions.

To determine whether your loft conversion is can be installed with room in roof insulation a pre-installation survey can be done.

This will also help you to choose the correct insulation for your home.

What are the requirements to have room in roof insulation installed?

  • There must be stairs leading up to it which are accessible enough to be able to walk down facing forward - this does not include ladders.
  • The room can't be classified as an additional storey as this won't count as a room in a roof. This means that 50% of any vertical walls shouldn’t be higher than 1.8 metres.
  • Adequate ventilation must be present to avoid a build up on condensation.
  • The roof needs to be in an inhabitable condition with no presence of damp, mould, rot, flaking timbers or unreliable electrical connections.
