Hot Water Usage

Hot water usage

Do you know how much your hot water usage counts towards your fuel bills?

In fact, according to the Energy Saving Trust, hot water usage accounts for 25% of the energy consumption in your home. Here is an energy saving fact...’if you use less hot water you will be saving money on your energy bills as well as your water bills!’

  • Most people use around 142 litres of water a day. That’s on average 349 litres of water per household
  • The average annual metered water bill is £427 (£369 for 2.1 persons)
  • Hot water use contributes £228 to the average annual combined energy bill and emits 875kg of CO2 per household per year

(All figures are taken from the Energy Saving Trust)

Here are some actions you can take to save water in the home:

  • Install water efficient showerheads
  • Upgrade your taps to more efficient models
  • Improve the flush on your WC (you will find it will do the job with half the water)

Save water by changing your behaviour:

  • Have a shower rather than a bath
  • Take shorter showers
  • Turn off dripping taps
  • Manage your appliances (check kettle volumes, dishwasher & washing machines)
