The Government have announced a new scheme titled the Green Homes Grant to launch in September 2020.
Vouchers up to a value of £5,000 will be issued to applicants in England to improve the energy efficiency of their home, with a further £5,000 offered to residents with low incomes or on certain benefits.
The Government will set aside £2 million for the Green Homes Grant, in an attempt to improve the UK's housing stock whilst creating jobs in the slump after the coronavirus lockdown.
What will the Green Homes Grant cover?
The vouchers available will contribute towards primary measures such as:
Once a primary measure is fitted, the vouchers extend to secondary measures such as:
Energy efficient doors
How much money will I get from the Green Homes Grant?
The vouchers will cover two-thirds of the cost of the measure for the majority of householders, up to a limit of £5,000.
This means there will need to be a contribution from the householder.
However there is more support may be available for those on lower incomes and benefits, with vouchers fully covering the cost of installs up to a value of £10,000.
With relatively little contribution required, residents would be able to save hundreds of pounds in the long run by benefiting from a more energy efficient home.
How can I apply for a Green Homes voucher?
The scheme is set to launch in September, with homeowners able to apply online once the Simple Energy Advice (SEA) government service is available.
All homeowners can apply, and the scheme is also open to landlords of private and social housing.
Only TrustMark and MCS approved installers will be able to install the measures.
What funding options are available now?
The scheme doesn't launch until September, however you could get a grant to cover or contribute towards the cost of your home efficiency improvements through the Government’s Energy Company Obligations (ECO) scheme instead.
YES Energy Solutions works directly with major energy companies and has contracts in place to draw down ECO funding for eligible customers. We can check to see if you qualify for any support.
Depending on your circumstances, your property and the energy saving measures you choose, we may find that we can access a grant to cover the majority of the cost of the work.
