What opportunities are available for installers now the Green Homes Grant has closed?

The Green Homes Grant Voucher Scheme closed to new applications from householders on 31 March, stopping installers generating any further work from the scheme.

Applications made before the deadline will be honoured and any vouchers already issued can be extended.

What can installers do now the Green Homes Grant has finished?

Despite being a flash in the pan, the scheme required installers to invest in acquiring skills and accreditation in order to participate.

Many of these skills align with the Government's more established Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, offering an opportunity for installers trained up in the Green Homes Grant to transition to the longer running scheme.

ECO was launched in 2013 to help make energy saving measures, such as heating and insulation, affordable for householders.

Every major Energy Company in the UK has been obligated to provide funding for installations that cut carbon emissions and consumer fuel bills.

There are additional requirements in ECO processes, however, installers operating under the Green Homes Grant voucher scheme will have already acquired the TrustMark and PAS2030 accreditations.

Installers interested in tapping into ECO should be aware of upcoming changes in the scheme with the introduction of PAS 2035 requiring new processes that will demand significant investment.

Despite the requirements, there are numerous opportunities to increase the amount of installs by offering ECO funding to customers.
