    Frequently Asked Questions

How can I reduce my Gas/Electric Bill?

There are lots of ways to reduce your gas and electric bill. This can include little things like draught excluders or bigger changes like improved insulation in your walls – it all depends on your circumstances and your housing. You might also look at switching your provider if you’re on a tariff that isn’t right for you.

My home feels cold all the time – is there a way to make it feel warmer?

There are multiple different tools you can use to get the most out of your heating. Radiator Reflectors are a relatively cheap method of helping your radiators heat your rooms more effectively, but there are also other easy ways to keep your home warm. Call us for free on 0808 164 2444 we are here to help!

How can I prevent mould and damp?

Mould and damp arise from high humidity in a home which can be due to poor ventilation, a build-up of moisture in the air or a lack of warm air circulation. Make sure any ventilation in your window frames are open, and keep radiators in rooms that aren’t in use on low, rather than entirely off. Make sure the extractor fans in your bathroom and kitchen are working, as these rooms make more moisture than others.

I am a vulnerable individual – what happens if there’s a power or water cut?

The Priority Service Register exists for this very reason. It is free to register on and will mean that, in the event of a power cut, you are prioritised for emergency support. It can also help the water, electric and gas companies to plan any major works so that they don’t cause unnecessary challenges.

My property feels cold, but I’m not sure what can be done about it?

Other than little methods around the house that can improve your energy efficiency, it may be possible to look at improving bigger elements such as insulation or the heating system. A good place to find this information is the “Find an energy certificate – GOV.UK” which can tell you how energy efficient your property is and what could be done to improve it.

I want to improve my property so that it is more energy efficient, but its very expensive – how can I afford this?

If you own a property but don’t have a lot of disposable income in order to improve its energy efficiency, there may be government funding that can cover a significant amount of the cost. Depending on where you live, you could contact your local council, or there are companies that can look at supporting you through this process (Like YES Energy Solutions!)

I’m struggling with my energy costs, but I’m also struggling with other costs – is there any additional support available?

We understand that your energy costs and usage may just be one part of the challenges you might be dealing with. There are lots of organisations – Citizens’ Advice, for example – that can look at providing extra advice and support. When giving our energy advice we can direct you to other tools and support that can make it all just a little easier.
